Job Description for Storekeeper
Storekeeper are responsible for helping organize products/items in a facility, as well as maintaining accurate inventory. These individuals must be organized and pay close attention to detail and develop strong relationships with logistic and receiving staff to reach all organizational goals. They usually work in a store, factory, warehouse environment to ensure that all items are placed properly and often stand on their feet for extended periods of time; they also climb and lift heavy object on a regular basis. The use of protective gear such as goggles, hard hats, and steel-toed boots is strongly advised to avoid accidents on the job. Storekeeper must work effectively in team environments with other storekeeper to reach all product placement and storage goals in a timely manner. They must also follow strict safety protocols to avoid issues and report their progress to the store placement manager or logistics supervisor in their company. Some storekeeper may be required to operate forklifts and other specialized machinery. Those in this position also complete inventory paperwork and receive and ship items as needed, as well as check stock orders and use a personal computer to dispatch items where required. They are responsible for reporting noncompliance products to discard areas and developing good relationships with vendors, as well as performing quality assurance tasks with excellent customer service to develop brand recognition and loyalty. Storekeeper also ensure quality control and assist staff members with common store duties. A high school diploma is generally required for this position, and prior work experience as a storekeeper is highly beneficial. Logistics and warehouse certifications are also helpful.
Storekeeper Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain receipts, records, and withdrawals of the stockroom
- Receive, unload, and shelve supplies
- Perform other stock-related duties, including returning, packing, pricing, and labeling supplies
- Inspect deliveries for damage or discrepancies and report those to accounting for reimbursements and record keeping
- Rotate stock and coordinate the disposal of surpluses
- Ensure adequate record keeping and manage all documentation to confirm proper stock levels and maintain inventory control
- Coordinate the handling of freight, the movement of equipment, and necessary minor repairs
Storekeeper Requirements and Qualifications
- Knowledge of proper bookkeeping and inventory management
- Familiarity with standard concepts and best practices in a stockroom or warehouse environment
- Analytical mind with ability to make accurate mathematical computations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Keen attention to detail and ability to effectively manage time
- Skills to operate common office equipment
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in storekeeping, inventory control, or recordkeeping
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to acquire and maintain forklift certification
- Physical ability to frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 lbs
