Rotorua is a city in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand. The city is located on the southern shores of Lake Rotorua, from which it gets its name. It is home to the Rotorua Lake District, a subdivision that includes Rotorua and several other nearby cities. With an estimated population of 57,900, Rotorua is the 12th most populous urban area in the country and the second most populous in the Bay of Plenty after Tauranga.
Rotorua is a major destination for both domestic and international tourists. The tourism industry is by far the largest industry in the district. The name Rotorua is of Maori origin and the official name of the city and lake is Te Rotorua-nui-a-Kahumatamomoe. Roto means “lake” and Rua means “two” or in this case “second”. Rotorua therefore means “second lake”. Kahumata Momoe was the uncle of the Maori Chief Ihenga, the ancestral discoverer of Te Arawa. It was his second large lake discovered by the chieftain and dedicated to his uncle. It is the largest of the numerous lakes in the northeast, all connected to the caldera and nearby Mount Tarawera. Its name can equally well mean “crater lake”.
The area was originally settled by Maori of the Tearawaiwi tribe in the 14th century. In the early 1820s, the Ngapuhi, led by Chief Hongi Hika, launched a series of raids on the Bay of Plenty as part of the Musketeer War. In 1823, a Gapuhi raiding party led by Hongi Hika Te Arawa attacked the paa (fortified settlement) on Mokoia Island, which they defeated.The first Europeans in the area Possibly Philip Tapsel, who traded on the shores of the Bay of Plenty at Maketu from 1828. He later married in Te Arawa and was highly regarded by them. Missionaries Henry Williams and Thomas Chapman visited him in 1831, and Chapman and his wife founded a mission in Teh Koutu in 1835. The city was linked to Auckland by the opening of the Rotorua Branch Railway and his 1894 Rotorua Express train service, leading to rapid urban and tourism growth from then on. Rotorua was incorporated as a municipality in 1922 and was first elected mayor in 1923. He created the city in 1962 before becoming a district in 1979.

Who we’re looking for
We are looking for an experienced supervisor with experience working in the electrical industry, current registration and competence, and holding at least a class 1 driver’s license. There are also:

- Proven supervisory experience
- Knowledge and experience in LV and HV distribution and zonal substations
- National Certificate Electricity Supply (NCES) Line Mechanic – Level 4 or Live Work Level 5, National Certificate of Electrical Engineering Level 4 or equivalent
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to solve problems and make decisions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
